During the summer months, parent volunteers were instrumental in the set-up of a book room in every elementary school! The East Windsor Regional School District Board of Education recognized these parent volunteers at their January 24, 2011meeting.
In each classroom and grade level, students have different reading abilities. The book room concept was developed as way to meet these diverse abilities and, at the same time, to be cost efficient. The books are used for students to expand their reading skills and are a part of and support the Language Arts curriculum.
The set up of a bookroom took tremendous effort! The parent volunteers spent countless hours placing barcodes on approximately 5000 books and then arranging them on the shelves in correct order! Because of their time and dedication, the teachers can now easily select the appropriate level book for a student, scan the book title, and then use it in their guided reading groups. This new system has been a major benefit to all of our elementary school children.
The parent volunteers that set up the bookroom in the Ethel McKnight School were Alison Bernas, Debbie Strzepek, Janice Sabogal, Helen Levinson, Stacy Carmona, Nevada Carabelli-Doherty and Christine Hettel. Dawn Wolfe and Heather Szeles volunteered at the Grace N. Rogers School and the Perry L. Drew School bookroom was set up by JoAnn Winzinger and Michele Hupfl.
The bookroom at the Walter C. Black School was set up by Lisa Gratkowski, Janis Haddock, Ulrica and Anthony Infosino, Sue Madden, Lisa Ernst, Candace Geller, Kim Totka, Irene Goon, and Janien Rosenberger.
The Board of Education would like to thank the parent volunteers for their valuable time, commitment and willingness to be an instrumental part of making this new concept available to our students!
