BORDENTOWN CITY – Bordentown City Cats animal rescue group will hold its eighth annual flea market fundraiser on Saturday, April 9, from 8 am to 2 p.m, at the Carslake Community Center, at 209 Crosswicks St., Bordentown City.
All proceeds from the popular community event will benefit the group’s continuing efforts to rescue, foster, find good homes for and provide medical treatment to Bordentown’s stray and feral cat population.
"We find ourselves more and more challenged to meet our mission in this economy," said Mak Kieffer, one of the group’s founders. "We are finding more abandoned cats due to foreclosures or simply the inability to care for them anymore. So we’re once again turning to our generously supportive community to help us continue our rescue mission."
Residents and business owners can get involved with the event in one of two ways:
– By renting space to sell their own new or used goods. The cost to rent a space is $20. Anyone interested must contact the group and pay in advance. Carslake Community Center will be open the night before, April 8, from 4-7 pm for advance set-up.
– By donating old items or baked goods that can be sold with the proceeds going to benefit the group; or by donating gift certificates or items from area businesses that can be used as prizes.
"With more than 40 tables of great finds, a bake sale and prizes, there’s something for everyone in the family. The beauty of the event is that all proceeds go to benefit the control of Bordentown’s stray cat population through the humane efforts of an enlightened community," Mr. Kieffer added.
Anyone interested in renting a space, making a donation to the event, or adopting a cat, should contact the group at (Phone) 609-324-3896 or (E-mail) [email protected] or visit: www.bordentowncitycats.blogspot.com.
Among the many efforts that the flea market supports is the fostering and adoption of Bordentown’s homeless cat population, like Rowan (seen in attached picture). Rowan is approximately 5-6 month old and extremely loving and friendly. He’s a little shy at first, but watch out when he gets to know you, he won’t leave you alone. Rowan is neutered and up-to-date on shots, which means he’s ready to go to a good home today
