MANVILLE: Students bring joy of reading to Storytime class

By Mary Ellen Zangara, Special Writer
Storytime students at the Manville Public Library had a special visit last Wednesday from Weston School students. The students were bused over to the library to read and do some skits for Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Even though it was a week early, the Storytimers enjoyed the visit.
Second and third graders from Laura Landau, Paul Gallagher, Jennifer Deitrich and Heather Robustelli’s classes came to share some famous Dr. Seuss stories with the Storytime children.
”We welcome you for coming to join us for Storytime today,” children’s librarian Ruth Bielanski said to the Weston students. “We are going to do a few songs and then you are going to do your reading.”
The students joined in singing as many of them had participated in library Storytime just as the children on hand.
The first Dr. Seuss book that was read by Mr. Gallagher’s class, “And to Think You Saw It on Mulberry Street.” The youngsters sat and listened as the third graders took a part in the reading.
Mr. Gallagher said that his class enjoyed the visit. “We were very thankful when Ms. Deitrich and Ms. Landau invited us to join this Dr. Seuss reading event. We have the opportunity for our students to share their love of reading with some of the younger children here in town. We are going to hope that it is contagious and that the love of reading spends,” he said.
Ms. Robustelli said, “The students and teachers from Weston School are participating in a community event with a little reading group of kids and parents and we made up our own Dr. Seuss story, made pictures and played games and everyone had a great time.”
Ms. Landau was glad to have her class participate also. Her class read “Green Eggs and Ham.”
”Ms. Deitrich and the Manville Public Library are doing a wonderful job planning events that allow all students to participate. This was a wonderful idea to let 4 year olds see the Weston students perform Dr. Seuss stories,” she said.
