The 27th annual Monmouth County Fair concluded at East Freehold Park in Freehold Township on July 29. The Monmouth County Park System extends its thanks to the hundreds of vendors and exhibitors, stage performers, event coordinators, and 4-H members on a job well-done.
A total of 1,058 ribbons, trophies and honors were presented. From Barbara Allen of Highlands to Jaime Zrowka of Farmingdale, winners went home with recognition for being the best, the fastest, or the most unique.
A clear blue sky, a comfortable temperature, and the lack of humidity helped bring out fair-goers and set a record attendance of 29,000 for Friday. By Sunday’s closing, 81,500 people came through the gate and had a chance to view the many attractions, visit the midway, and sample a variety of foods.
As fair chairwoman, I appreciate the efforts of the 2001 fair committee: Paul McCue, Karen Halvorsen, Doug Krampert, George Richdale Jr., Mike Bennett, Tom Collins, Drew D’Apolito, Al Weaver, Rachel LaCosta, Patty O’Rourke, Fran Martone, Laura Kirkpatrick and Louise McCook.
And special thanks to 4-H coordinators Bruce Timmerman and Meg Whitehouse. All of these people put forth extra effort to ensure the Monmouth County Fair was well run.
Thank you to the Monmouth County community for making the fair a success.
This cooperative effort between the park system and the 4-H association is a great summer tradition that provides affordable family fun and great memories for all.
