Arthur “Artie” MacCollum

Arthur “Artie” MacCollum, 77, peacefully left this world on Thursday morning, Aug. 27, 2015, at his home in Burnside, Pennsylvania.

Born on June 6, 1938, in New Brunswick to the late Arthur A. and Dorothy MacCollum Sr., he lived most of his life in Edison. After making a pit stop in Manalapan for 12 years he moved on to settle in rural Burnside, snowballing friends all along the way.

Art had worked at Mack Truck, worked roofing, dabbled with business ownership, but of real profession had retired after many years as a union carpenter millwright. With that experience, and the help of good friends, he restored a few old “unlivable” houses into homes. Much of his work was almost to perfection, yet his saying was, “A blind man on a fast horse will never see a thing.”

Art had a lifelong love of motorcycles and riding, restoring cars and motors, fishing with his buddies, a good game of rummy, NASCAR and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a deep love for his wife and family, and his dogs, past and present. He loved a good joke, a cold beer and the company of friends – old and new.

He will be dearly missed.

Left to hold fondly in heart and memories are his beloved wife Patricia A. (Larnder) MacCollum of Burnside, Pennsylvania; his children, Arthur S. MacCollum, Laura MacCollum, Marty MacCollum, Tom Taylor, Scott Taylor, Debbie and Franny; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and sisters Alice Colangelo, Carol Fiorella, Janet Franchette and Nancy and Ben Dudling.

Preceding his passing were brothers David and James MacCollum.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 26 at the Colts Neck Reform Church Cemetery. A celebration of life gathering will follow at 2 p.m. at the Englishtown American Legion. All family and friends are welcome.
