WEST WINDSOR: County Skating Center is open for the winter

WEST WINDSOR — Mercer County’s Skating Center is officially open for the season.
The ice skating center offers private lessons, hosts high school hockey games and it is available for private parties.
The center is located in West Windsor at Mercer County Park and is open seven days a week until March.
”People are being careful with their money and don’t want to travel very far to have a good time and Mercer County skating rink really fits that bill,” said Brian Hughes, Mercer County executive. “Our skating rink is one of Mercer County’s most utilized facilities, and families looking for a great recreational activity that’s fun and affordable come out in droves.”
David Fox, 51, of West Windsor, is a regular who skates three to four times a week to exercise.
”I like to come here during the weekdays when it is not very crowded and (I can) skate faster without people being in the way,” Mr. Fox said. “It tends to get busier later in the season. I guess most people don’t think about skating until the temperature drops.”
The rink will have an event called Skate with Santa from 5 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 17. The cost is $7, which will include free skate rental, hot chocolate, holiday treat and a photo with Santa.
The general admission is $7. Skates can be rented for $2. Frequent skater passes also are available.
   The hours for public skate are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. and 7:30 to 10 p.m. Friday; 1 to 3:30 p.m., 5 to 7 p.m and 8 to10 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
The hours for senior skate (62 and older) are from 9 to10 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
