Lt. Stephen J. Bartzak, commanding officer, West Amwell Township Police Department, reported:
— On June 8 at approximately 5:37 p.m., police investigated a serious motorcycle/car accident on Route 31 in the area of the Amwell Valley Diner and Restaurant.
William Curtiss, 61, of Ringoes, was driving south on a 1985 Harley Davidson motorcycle when a northbound vehicle, driven by Kathleen Snyder, 30, of Flemington, entered the left-turn lane and then began executing a left turn into the path of Mr. Curtiss’ motorcycle. This resulted in a collision. The impact ejected him from the motorcycle.
Ms. Snyder was not injured.
Mr. Curtiss sustained a serious injury to his leg and other injuries. He was treated at the scene by the Amwell Valley Ambulance Corps, along with Amwell Valley fire personnel.
A helicopter landing zone was established by West Amwell Fire/Rescue at the former Pine Creek Miniature Golf on Route 31. Mr. Curtiss was subsequently flown by the New Jersey State Police Medevac helicopter to the Capital Health Trauma Center in Trenton.
Route 31 was closed by township police from Linvale-Harbourton to Woodsville roads for approximately one hour. Patrols were assisted by the Amwell Valley Fire Company Fire Police Unit.
Both the motorcycle and car were towed from the scene with heavy damage. Patrolman Jonathan Sellner investigated. Ms. Snyder was issued summonses for failure to yield the right of way and careless driving.
Lambertville City police reported:
— A 17-year old girl was struck by a car as she was walking across the intersection of Route 29 and Bridge Street on May 25. The girl, a resident of Lambertville, was walking in the crosswalk as she attempted to cross Bridge Street at 11:33 a.m. A 2010 Hyundai Elantra, operated by Dana Cormier, also of Lambertville, was turning onto Bridge Street from Route 29 when her vehicle struck the girl with the front of her vehicle. The juvenile fell across the hood of the vehicle before falling back into the roadway, striking her head on the pavement.
Officer Memolo, who happened to turn onto Bridge Street from the opposite direction, saw the accident and gave aid to the victim until the Lambertville-New Hope Rescue arrived along with paramedics. The victim was transported to the Hunterdon Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. Police say she has been released. The accident investigation is ongoing.
— Joseph Litton, 46, of New Hope, was arrested for DUI on June 8 as a result of a motor vehicle stop. Officer Michael Miloszar stopped Mr. Litton on Bridge Street at 11:49 p.m. after he allegedly was seen driving erratically. Mr. Litton was determined to be intoxicated and was charged with DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and improper use of horn. He was released with a pending court date.
— Tary Leonard, 52, of Ottsville, Pennsylvania, was arrested for DUI on June 7. Sgt. Robert Brown stopped Ms. Leonard on North Union Street at 12:27 a.m. after she was seen driving in an improper manner. Ms. Leonard was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and charged with DUI, failure to keep right and careless driving. She was later released with a pending court date.
— Scott Mavis, 57, of Yardley, Pennsylvania, was arrested for DUI on June 8. Officer Michael Gramlich stopped Mr. Mavis on Route 29 for traveling 61 mph in a posted 40-mph zone. Mr. Mavis was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and charged with DUI, speeding and reckless driving. He was later released with a pending court date.
— Two Lambertville residents are facing charges after allegedly being found in possession of stolen property relating to an earlier car burglary on June 4. Officer Vincent Albani stopped a pick-up truck being operated by Lesha Williams, 46, for a motor vehicle violation on Route 29 at 2 p.m. In the open bed of the truck, the officer saw property that had been reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Church Street earlier in the day, as well as additional stolen property from another jurisdiction.
Mr. Williams was charged with two counts of receiving stolen property, issued a motor vehicle summons and released with a pending court date.
A passenger in the Williams vehicle, Everett Rose, 56, struggled with the officer as Officers Albani and Miloszar attempted to take him into custody. Mr. Rose was later treated for exposure to OC Pepper spray. He was charged with two counts of receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and municipal ordinance violations. Mr. Rose was lodged in the Hunterdon County Jail, where he was held on $5.000 bail.
— Bertoldo Sanchez-Ramirez, 21, of Lambertville, was arrested on an outstanding warrant as a result of a motor vehicle stop on June 5. Sgt. Brown stopped Mr. Sanchez-Ramirez on Church Street at 11 p.m. for having a headlight out. Mr. Sanchez-Ramirez was found to have a warrant issued for his arrest for failure to appear on traffic charges in Hopewell Township. He was charged with failure to maintain lamps and failure to exhibit a license. He was later released with pending court dates.
— A Brunswick Avenue resident reported the theft of a boat motor and boat equipment as a result of a burglary of her garage sometime between May 27 and June 3. The boat motor was described as a Yamaha 4 stroke/ 4 horsepower. The equipment was a “Main Sheet Block System” used to move a sail on a sailboat. Total value of the items stolen was $1.300. Officer Joseph Weber is investigating.
Suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
Michael V. Cummings, chief of police, New Hope, reported:
— On May 17 at 12:32 a.m., police arrested Katie Cannon, 24, of New Hope, for driving under the influence of alcohol, after she was seen operating her vehicle in an unlawful manner on West Mechanic Street.
— On May 19 at 2:45 a.m., police arrested Sean Albrecht, 24, of New Hope, for driving under the influence of alcohol, after he was seen operating his vehicle in an unlawful manner on South Main Street.
— A Ringoes woman reported to police that, at some time between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. on May 20, her iPhone, valued at $700, had been removed from her purse, while she was at a West Ferry Street establishment.
— On May 21 at 9:46 a.m., a contractor working at a South Main Street property reported to police that, at some time during the overnight hours, someone had attempted, unsuccessfully, to gain entry to the building by kicking at the rear doors. Police have video footage of several persons who were on the property during the overnight hours.
— On May 23 at 2:12 a.m., police cited Christopher Furqiuele, 23, of Newtown, Pennsylvania, for public drunkenness, after he was found to be in an intoxicated state while walking on the railroad tracks in the area of Stockton Avenue and West Bridge Street.
— On May 30, police have filed juvenile allegations against five subjects, all from New Hope or Solebury, on charges including criminal trespass, conspiracy and underage drinking, as a result of an investigation into an incident that occurred at a South Main Street location in August 2011.
