The Hopewell Valley YMCA will host its Spring Gala and Dinner Dance at TPC Jasna Polana on April 19.
The event will celebrate the “incredible accomplishments of Sheryl Stone, chairwoman of the Recreation Foundation of Hopewell Valley. Under Sheryl’s leadership, the Recreation Foundation has successfully installed fields for numerous local youth sports organizations.
” The Fields at Back Timberlane and the recent Hopewell Valley Turf Field behind the high school are a few of those major accomplishments,” said a spokesman.
Ms Stone started the Recreation Foundation of Hopewell Valley after having led the Hopewell Valley Municipal Alliance. After completing a community needs assessment where respondents lamented the need for local recreational activities and facilities, Ms Stone took the helm and started the Recreation Foundation.
”Although I am really honored to receive this recognition, it’s really on behalf of the Recreation Foundation. It’s all really for the kids,” said Ms. Stone.
Previous recipients of the award include: John Phillips, Pat and Mika Ryan, and the Rothwell Family/Pennington Quality Market. “It is quite humbling to join such a prestigious list of previous recipients,” Ms Stone said.
.The Spring Gala begins at 7 p.m. April 19 with a cocktail reception and hors d’oeuvres with the silent auction. Live entertainment from Clearing the Cobwebs will be in the Travertine Room. Dinner stations open at 8 p.m., with a program to honor Ms. Stone, followed by the live auction and then dancing to the band.
The planning committee is seeking additional members to join them. Also needed are sponsors, donations, auction items, and advertisers to support the event.
Proceeds will be used to provide financial assistance to local families for child care, summer camp, youth sports, swimming lessons and to operate the Hopewell Valley Youth Activity Center.
