Police charge man in daytime burglary of Metuchen home

METUCHEN — Police arrested a 32- year-old Woodbridge man on charges he burglarized a Graham Avenue residence.

The break-in occurred around 1:14 p.m. on Feb. 14, police said.

Eric Torres of the Menlo Park Terrace section of Woodbridge was charged with burglary and theft on Feb. 15. His bail was set at $25,000 with no 10 percent option. He was transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick.

The resident told police she arrived home and observed an older, white motor vehicle parked in her driveway with its windows down.

She walked to the back of her home and observed that her rear door was smashed in. She called out, but did not hear anyone, police said .

As she was walking back to her driveway, she observed a Hispanic male walk toward thewhite car. Themale then drove around the resident’s vehicle and onto the snow-covered front lawn, police said.

The victim gave police a description of the suspect and a partial license plate number. As police began investigating the incident, a Woodbridge police detective reportedly recognized the suspect and informed Metuchen police.

Police arrested Torres around 1:20 p.m. on Feb. 15. He was also charged by Woodbridge police with possession of 40 bags of heroin that were allegedly found on him at the time of his arrest.
