METUCHEN — Police are investigating a possible luring incident that was reported around 3:46 p.m. Feb. 22.

A13-year-old girl told police that she was walking on Rowland Place when she observed a white older-model minivan stop nearby. The girl then said a man came out of the van and threw a coffee cup into the garbage. She then heard the man say something to her, which prompted her to flee up the driveway to an unknown residence, according to police.

Police said she did not hear what the man said, but she told them that there were two other males in the vehicle and she heard them laughing.

“We are investigating the incident as a possible luring … just as a precautionary measure,” said Officer David Liantonio.

The man was described as being African- American, between 40 and 50 years old.
