Metuchen eighth-graders will head to Louisville for National History Bee

METUCHEN — Three eighth-graders at Edgar Middle School showed a penchant for the past when they recently advanced to the finals of the National History Bee.

Chloe Jacques, Alanna Redwood and Liam Walker started off by moving through two qualifying rounds at the school. This included a written test that was taken by all students in grades five through eight, as well as an online test for the top four scorers.

Aaron Puerzer also advanced to the regional finals. At the April 15 regional event in New York, the students competed in a buzzerbeater format that included three rounds of about 30 questions each. The Edgar Middle School qualifiers faced off against more than 100 competitors.

The National History Bee finals will take place in Louisville, Kentucky, during Memorial Day weekend.
