CRANBURY — The speed limit on the portion of Station Road from South Main Street to Route 130 has been changed from 35mph to 25mph.
The Township Committee voted unanimously Monday night to adopt the change and to re-establish the speed limit on the portion of Station Road from Route 130 to the township line at 50mph.
Station Road from Route 130 to the township line was inadvertently omitted from a recently passed ordinance concerning speed limits on township roadways.
The portion of the road from South Main Street to Route 130 required a speed survey, which the township engineer certified.
“It’s changing from 35 to 25mph,” Mayor James Taylor said. “This will help with traffic and resident safety. The homes on Station Road for the most part are close to the street and we have a number of school children who walk this street every day.”
Violators of the new speed limit would fall subject to a penalty of no more than $50 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 15 days or both, according to township code.
