Veteran receives long-overdue service medals

EDISON — A township resident and Korean War veteran recently received recognition for his achievements and service.

Rep. Frank Pallone (D-6) presented Robert A. Corbisiero with distinguished service medals last month. The 82-year-old veteran had not been previously recognized with the medals.

“This is a long-overdue recognition of Robert’s sacrifices and bravery while fighting for his country over half a century ago,” Pallone said. “I am honored to be here today to present him with these medals that he has earned, and feel privileged to be able to recognize Robert’s exceptional service.”

Pallone’s office secured for Corbisiero the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, a Republic of Korea-Korean War Service Medal and a letter of appreciation from the president of the Republic of Korea. The congressman’s office was also able to correct Corbisiero’s official records to accurately reflect all the medals to which he was entitled following his service.

Born in Clark, Corbisiero enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1952 at the age of 19. He served during the Korean War until he was officially discharged from active duty in 1954. He resides in Edison with his wife, Rose.
