Hillsborough Girl Scout Brownie Troop 60750, led by Michelle Daly and Tara Romano, recently went on three local field trips.
The girls’ first stop was Hilsborough’s Central Jersey Regional Airport, where they explored what it takes to be a pilot. Only 20 percent of all pilots are women; this fact sparked the girls’ interest in going to flight school when they are older.
The troop’s second trip took them to New Jersey American water treatment plant in Somerset. This was the perfect end to completing their Wonders of Water badge that they had been working on with Cadette Troop 60320.
The girls saw firsthand how the safety of our drinking is ensured for their community. In addition, the water company said that they were the first Girl Scout troop to ever tour their facility.
The troop’s final destination was Lima Farms in Hillsborough. The girls received an all-hands-on-deck tour of the farm, learning the ins and outs of daily farming life.
Not only were these three field trips fulfilling and educational experiences for the girls, but the staff and owners of these businesses welcomed the girls (and their parents) with an eagerness to teach the girls the importance of their function within the community.
