Bishop George of AHR High School also finished 4-6 last fall, including a 2-6 record in the GMC White Division, and the team didn’t participate in the Non-Public Group III playoffs. The season included a third consecutive defeat to St. Joseph High School of Metuchen since the teams have clashed.
Head coach Joe Vigilante won’t admit one game is more important than another, but the contest between the two parochial teams located a few miles apart has developed into a heated rivalry. This fall, St. Joe’s hosts the Trojans at its renovated stadium Nov. 21.
Bishop Ahr will rely on an experienced backfield, beginning with senior quarterback
Tommy Galante, who started six games last year. Senior Dane Lupton (running back/linebacker) and junior Andrew Brazicki
(running back/linebacker) are seasoned players who could gain more rushing yards because an offensive line returns almost intact.
It includes juniors Ricky Peguero, Justin Martinez, Zach Pandorf, Michael DeSantis and Anthony Villavacencia.
Although they have yet to prove they can become reliable pass catchers, Vigilante says junior wide receivers Guiseppe Capasso, Ben Prott and Patrick Dougherty and senior Kristian Polycarpe have been impressive in their first year on the varsity team.
Finally, Bishop Ahr boasts three seniors that could play on the next level. They are linebacker and wide receiver Robert Gee, cornerback Alonzo Green and offensive and defensive lineman Andre Banks.
“We expect to be competitive in all our games,” Vigilante said. “It’s understood the White Division is always challenging, but we believe with our experience and others who will be making their debuts this season, we should be in every contest.”
