President Lincoln comes to Parker Home

President Abraham Lincoln is one of the most admired historical figures, described by Carl Sandberg, author/ biographer, as “being made of velvet and steel: a man filled with compassion and resolve.”

When Bob Costello puts on his top hat and strikes a stately pose, he bears a stunning resemblance to President Lincoln. He has a talent and passion to take us back in time to meet the great president during his early life as well as his most notable years through the Civil War and The Gettysburg Address.

Costello has addressed hundreds of school assemblies, historical societies, library programs, and Civil War re-enactments over the last 12 years of his second career. He brings his presentation to Parker at the Pavilion, 443 River Road, Highland Park, on Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. This free community event is open to the public to help celebrate President’s Day. Costello’s biggest fan is his wife Helen, an active member of the Parker Center for Healthy Aging, where she enjoys her daily aqua Zumba class.

Helen loves to sing her husband’s praises, stating,“In front of your eyes Bob becomes Abraham Lincoln. It’s like a metamorphosis, you actually feel like you are seeing our beloved 16th president of the United States.”
