SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A new residential development will honor the memory of a fallen soldier with a street named in his honor.

Stephen C. Ponty Jr. was born on May 28, 1949.

He was a resident of South Brunswick, and served as a U.S. Army Special Fourth Class with the 187th Assault Helicopter Company.

On Dec. 28, 1988, just one month from the end of his year of service, Ponty made the ultimate sacrifice for his country.

In honor of Ponty, Byron-Hill Homebuilders named the street of their new community in the Parkdale at South Brunswick luxury estate community, located on Ridge Road, as “Ponty Court.”

“We tried, along with the help of the township, to locate Mr. Ponty’s family but were not successful,” said JoAnne Briggs, a representative of Byron-Hill Homebuilders, who was hopeful his family would attend the street naming dedication on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

“It is important to give thanks to our veterans and honor them in any way that we can,” said Luther Gueyikian, a partner in Byron-Hill Homebuilders.
