County slates hazardous-waste drop-off date

Middlesex County’s Division of Solid Waste Management will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day 8 a.m.-2 p.m. May 16 at the Middlesex County Bridges and Highways Facility, Apple Orchard Lane, off Route 130 north, North Brunswick.

Acceptable items include adhesives, aerosol cans, anti-freeze, brake fluid, car batteries, cleaners, drain cleaners, fluorescent bulbs, gasoline, gas/oil mix, kerosene, lighter fluid, mercury, motor oil/filters, latex or oil paints, paint thinner, pesticides/herbicides, photographic chemicals, pool chemicals, propane tanks, stains/varnishes, thermometers, thermostats, and rechargeable and button cell batteries if they are individually bagged or have each terminal end taped prior to transport. Containers must be less than 10 gallons.

Nonacceptable items include appliances/ furniture, electronics, empty containers, explosives and munitions, infectious/medical waste, smoke detectors and tires. Alkaline batteries can be disposed of in regular trash.
