SOUTH BRUNSWICK — The proposed budgets for South Brunswick’s three fire districts were approved last weekend.

District 1, based in Kendall Park, had a proposed 2010 budget of $1,108,400, with $761,107 to be raised through taxes. The budget was adopted with 105 “yes” votes as opposed to 14 “no” votes.

The two unopposed commissioners running for the two available three-year terms were approved as well, with commissionerArthur Tarnowski receiving 114 votes and incumbent Dean Behrend receiving 110 votes. A write-in, Anthony Fresolone, received 16 votes. Voting took place at the Kendall Park firehouse on New Road.

District 2, located in Monmouth Junction, had a 2010 proposed operating budget of $1,312,000, with $840,000 to be raised through taxation, approved with 37 votes in favor as opposed to 15 votes against.

The two incumbents running unopposed for the two available three-year terms were also approved, with commissioners Thomas A. Young Jr. receiving 50 votes and Roger Potts receiving 49. Voting took place this weekend on Ridge Road in Monmouth Junction.

District 3’s 2010 proposed budget of $493,343, with $325,397 to be raised by taxation, was approved with 12 affirmative votes.

Commissioner Carl Eisman attributed the low vote count to the fact that the tax rate was not increased from last year. He noted that the district has stayed at 5 cents for the past few years.

“If we were raising taxes, they would have been voting to try and knock it down,” he said. “But we stayed at 5 cents.”

The one incumbent running unopposed for the available three-year term, Brad Radimer, won with 12 votes. Those votes were taken at the Kingston Fire House on Heathcote Road.
