FREEHOLD — Downtown Freehold has announced that its popular singing contest, Freehold Idol, is back for its ninth season and is now presented by iPlay America, Freehold Township.
Talented individuals from throughout the region will begin to entertain audiences and vie for first-place bragging rights at 7:30 p.m. June 3 outdoors at the Monmouth County Hall of Records plaza, Main Street.
The Freehold Idol competition will continue every Wednesday, with the final rounds scheduled to take place on Aug. 12 and 19.
Freehold Idol is open to individuals in three age groups: ages 10-15, ages 16-22 years old, and age 23 and up.
The winner in each age group will receive $500 and a trophy; each second-place finisher will receive $250; and each thirdplace finisher will receive $100.
“Each summer, we are always enthralled with the sheer number of talented vocalists who come to compete in Freehold,” said Christina DeGulis, marketing and events coordinator for Downtown Freehold. “We know that, especially for the younger contestants, competing is an important milestone and contributes greatly to self-confidence, and we are happy to provide this platform. Plus, the audience just loves the show.”
