Your Turn guest column writer’s passion was misplaced
After reading the recent Your Turn guest column, “Begone, single-use plastic bags!” by Michele S. Byers, the executive director of the New Jersey Conservation Foundation, a question immediately came to mind: Would Ms. Byers be as passionate on saving unborn babies as she was for saving the world from plastic shopping bags? Somehow I have…

Resident will support Keady on primary day, June 5
Regarding the May 16 letter to the editor in the News Transcript encouraging Democratic voters to educate themselves before coming out on Primary Day, June 5, I watched some of the recent debates between Jim Keady and Josh Welle, who are vying to oppose Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ) in New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District. I…

Legislation restores needed medical services
Many safety net family planning service providers offer more than just reproductive health care out of the realization that family planning medical care is often the only medical contact women, particularly poor women, may access. Therefore, safety net service providers, like Planned Parenthood, provide life-saving primary care and preventative services such as breast and cervical…

Gov. lays the foundation for ‘pro-growth’ agenda
The first 100 days of Gov. Phil Murphy’s administration laid the foundation for the governor’s “pro-growth progressive” agenda. The contours of the governor’s program would make New Jersey into a fairer state with significant benefits to the middle class and the most vulnerable among us. As the former inspector general of the New Jersey Department…

Get to know the candidates in Democratic primary

In past years it was enough for a Democrat to go into the polling place and just click on the party line. I urge voters this year…

The volunteers filled 125 bags containing 1,818 pounds of trash and 1,242 pounds of “bulky waste” was picked up, for a total of over 1.5 tons…

I wish to thank all those who make this event possible: Mayor Jonathan Hornik, Councilman Jeff Cantor and the Township Council, Lynn Gustman and the Recreation Department, Adrianne Spota and the “Green Team,” the Shade Tree Committee, Dave Parris, curator, New Jersey State…

Murphy’s budget will ensure fairness for all citizens
In his inaugural address, President John F. Kennedy said that “if a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.” Gov. Phil Murphy’s first budget address builds on the meaning of this famous statement by JFK. The governor has proposed a budget that will make New…

Gopal asks officials to reject construction of cell tower
I stand behind the residents of Freehold Township who oppose the construction of a T-Mobile cell tower on Robertsville Road. Residents have been fighting this project for almost 10 years now. The Freehold Township Zoning Board of Adjustment originally rejected T-Mobile’s application to construct the cell tower, a decision I firmly believe was made in…
