Congress should be liable for toxic cleanups

Congress must pay to clean up the Superfund sites. Congress allowed the Superfund tax to expire in 1995, thereby leaving us with a large debt. It is its responsibility, and its alone, to rectify its mistake. Why should the big oil and chemical companies reap the benefits and leave it up to the taxpayers to suffer the consequences?

We did not make the mistake, and we certainly did not cause this toxic waste monstrosity.

They have violated the 1980 law which states that polluters must pay to clean up their messes. Congress has now broken this law. Let its members have the decency to take the blame and bear the burden.
