Jewell named Jackson principal

JACKSON — The Jackson Board of Education has named Freehold Township High School Assistant Principal Linda Jewell principal of Jackson Memorial High School.

Board members tapped Jewell to head the school at its July 24 meeting.

Jewell has been a staff member in the Freehold Regional High School District, of which Freehold Township is a member, for 13 years. Prior to being named an assistant principal at Freehold Township, Jewell served as the school’s supervisor of extracurricular activities.

Before coming to the high school district, Jewell was a teacher in the Freehold Borough elementary school district from 1972-88.

She holds two master’s degrees — one in administration, supervision and curriculum planning from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, and one in education from The College of New Jersey, Ewing.

Jewell’s resignation from the Freehold Regional High School District will leave three assistant principal positions to be filled by the district’s Board of Education prior to the September opening of school.

Howell High School Assistant Principal Terry Fitzpatrick is leaving the district to become the principal at Manville High School in Somerset County.

The third assistant principal opening results from the promotion of Marlboro High School Assistant Principal Dr. Anthony Procopio to principal at Freehold Township High School. Procopio replaces Dr. James J. Hayden, who left the district to accept a position with Rider University, Lawrenceville.

Superintendent of Schools James Wasser said he appreciates the past service Fitzpatrick and Jewell have given to the district and said he wishes them well in their new positions.

Teresa Rafferty, the district’s public information coordinator, said there will be an Aug. 6 workshop meeting during which board members may examine potential candidates for the three assistant principal positions in closed session.

"We expect some positions may be announced at the board’s Aug. 13 meeting," Rafferty said.
