The Zoning Board of Adjustment has postponed hearing a proposal to build a shopping center on Raymond Road and Route 1.
The amended proposal, which includes plans to build a Home Depot and a restaurant, was postponed Thursday until Oct. 11 because of a busy zoning board schedule, said Assistant Planner Brian Sullivan.
Byron-Hill, New Jersey Corp. is seeking a variance from a 1998 approval to construct a 116,279-square-foot Home Depot, a 54,524-square-foot supermarket and an 8,000-square-foot-plus restaurant, according to Zoning Board Chairman Barry Nathanson.
The proposal, slated for 22.8 acres of a 73.8-acre lot, is much larger than previously proposed. Originally, the largest store was expected to be 40,000 square feet.
"Originally it was supposed to be a neighborhood shopping center," Mr. Nathanson said. "It changed the feel."
The project has been in the works since 1997, before the township rezoned much of Route 1 for office parks. Councilman Frank Gambatese said the project had approval when the area will still zoned for retail space.
