Nicholas A. Bogdan
   PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP — Nicholas A. Bogdan, 34, died in the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York.
   Born in Trenton, he lived in Browns Mills two years.
   Mr. Bogdan was employed by Marsh & McLennan as a computer operator. He worked on the 98th floor of the North Tower.
   He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bogdan; a son, Nicholas William; and a daughter, Emily Althea Marie; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ron Bogdan and Edward and Fran Bogdan, all of East Windsor, and Pete and Pam Bogdan of Neptune; three sisters, Sue Bogdan of Mount Holly, Althea Bogdan of Brookline, Mass., and Judy Bogdan of Robbinsville; three nieces, Mandy, Caity and Jackie Bogdan; a nephew, Danny Bogdan; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
   Memorial service was at Browns Mills United Methodist Church.

Joseph J. and

Stella Rette
   UPPER FREEHOLD — Joseph J. Rette, 82, died Friday, Oct. 5, at Cooper Hospital University Medical Center, Camden, from injuries received in an automobile accident. His wife of 53 years, Stella Rette, 77, died from injuries Saturday at Capital Health System at Fuld hospital, Trenton.
   Born in Robbinsville, Mr. Rette was a longtime Upper Freehold resident.
   Mrs. Rette was born in Trenton and also was a longtime Upper Freehold resident.
   Mr. Rette was an Army medic during World War II and a retired potato farmer. He owned the J.R. Nursery in Cream Ridge.
   Mrs. Rette was a homemaker.
   They were members of St. John’s Church, Allentown. Mr. Rette enjoyed hunting and fishing.
   Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Jim Waskovich of Allentown, JoAnn and Barry Caparotta of Cream Ridge and Susan and John Astrab of Princeton; Mr. Rette’s sister, Helen Pocetti of Trenton; Mrs. Rette’s brother and sister, John Wnuk of Ewing and Helen Wnuk of Trenton; and four grandchildren.
   Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. John’s Church, 1282 Yardville-Allentown Road, Allentown.
   Burial was in the parish cemetery.
William Vierling
   MANSFIELD — William Vierling, 77, died Saturday, Oct. 6, at his daughter’s house in Florence.
   Born in Elizabeth, he was a Robbinsville resident 26 years before moving to Columbus.
   He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 3525. Mr. Vierling enjoyed flying his airplane, boating and fishing.
   He owned and operated Grampp Hardware Store in Elizabeth 42 years.
   Son of the late Harry and Gertrude Vierling and brother of the late Florence Kolesar, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dixie A. Vierling; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Mark Trofe of Florence; three sons and two daughters-in-law, William of Roebling, Jeffrey and Karen Vierling of New Egypt and Mark and Laurie of Columbus; two sisters, Mary Holleman of Denver and Nancy Kahler of Lake Wales, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Rachel, Alecia, Kathryn, Noah, Lauren, William Drew, Jeffrey Jr., Scott and Taylor; a great-granddaughter, Tova; and other relatives and friends.
   Funeral was at Saul Colonial Home, Hamilton Square.
   Entombment was in Princeton Memorial Park, Robbinsville.

Mary Hornyak Tobin
   HAMILTON — Mary Hornyak Tobin died Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Capital Health System at Mercer hospital, Trenton.
   Born in Trenton, she was a lifelong area resident and member of the Hungarian Reformed Church.
   Daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Hornyak, sister of the late Andrew Hornyak and wife of the late Joseph Tobin, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Ivy Tobin; and a daughter and son-in-law with whom she lived, Kathleen and Joseph Scalzo, all of Yardville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Frances Hornyak of Plumsted and John and Margaret Hornyak of Allentown, N.J.; three grandchildren, Christopher, Danielle, and Sarah; a great-grandchild, Anneliese; and nieces and nephews.
   Funeral was at Hartmann Funeral Home, with the Rev. Laszlo Ujj officiating.
   Burial was in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Frank Wesley Gale
   EWING — Frank Wesley Gale Jr., 59, died Sunday, Oct. 7, at home.
   Born in Boulder City, Nev., he lived in New Jersey 40 years.
   He graduated from Strong Vincent High School in Erie, Pa., and studied forestry at the College of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.
   He retired in 1997 as director of purchasing from Educational Testing Service in Lawrence after 35 years. He also worked at the Sportsman Center, Bordentown, and Harry G. Wright Hardware, New Egypt. He was a clerk for the Upper Freehold Township Planning Board and a loan officer at Nassau Federal Credit Union.
   He was former pack master of New Egypt Cub Scout Pack 9 and a coach for the town Little League. He was an avid outdoorsman and a member of the executive board of the Zoofari Club of the Philadelphia Zoo. He was past president of Friends of Mercer County Equestrian Center.
   Son of the late Naomi Cooper Gale and Frank Wesley Gale Sr. and brother of the late Martha Cooper Gale, he is survived by his wife, Anne S. Neeff Gale; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Gale Guzzi and Raymond Guzzi of Beachwood and Nancy Gale Ritter and Anthony Ritter of Allentown; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Garrison and Dana Gale of Allentown and Travis Wright Gale of Allentown; a sister, Amanda Gale Heermans of White River Junction, Vt.; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Ashby and Pamela Granger Gale of Asheville, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Nikki, and Kristi Gale Ritter, Samantha Brinton, Maya Eleonore and Cooper Raymond Guzzi, Erica Brinton and Morgan Cooper Gale; a niece and seven nephews.
   Memorial service will be later.

Joseph C. Kanda
   EWING — Joseph C. Kanda, 82, died Sunday, Oct. 7, at Ewing Genesis Elder Care.
   Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident.
   Mr. Kanda was an Army veteran and served in Europe during World War II. He received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Rutgers University in 1955. He retired in 1981 as a bureau chief from the state Department of Transportation after 33 years.
   He was a member of the Church of St. Ann in Lawrenceville, North Trenton American Legion Post 458, New Jersey Department of Transportation Retirees Association and Trenton Elks Lodge 105.
   Daughter of the late John and Mary Barna Kanda, he is survived by his wife, Josephine Kocak Kanda; two daughters, Mary Cambridge of Robbinsville and Bernadette Tillett of Lambertville; a son, Michael Kanda of Robbinsville; six grandchildren, Brittany, Jaime and Kyle Tillett, Douglas Cambridge, Alysia and Melaney Kanda; three brothers, the Rev. Frank Kanda of Tiverton, R.I., the Rev. John Kanda of Bethel Park, Pa., and Anthony Kanda of Greenville, Miss.; two sisters, Mary Stercula and Ann Hritz, both of Hamilton; and nieces and nephews.
   Funeral will be 11 a.m. today (Thursday) from Poulson and Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville.
   Mass of Christian burial will be noon today (Thursday) at the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road.
   Burial will be in the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

Patricia Green Lagay
   UPPER FREEHOLD — Patricia Green Lagay, 73, died Sunday, Oct. 7, at home.
   Born in Trenton, she lived in the Bordentown area 47 years before moving to Cream Ridge.
   Mrs. Lagay retired in 1987 after 30 years as a supervisor with AT&T in Mercerville.
   Daughter of the late Philip and Helen McClain Green, she is survived by her husband, Robert Lincoln Lagay; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert K. and Cheryl A. Lagay of Princeton and Christopher P. and Jane E. Lagay of Cinnaminson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Grace L. and Richard N. Rein of Cream Ridge and Carol A. and Stephen G. Lawson of Newport, R.I.; and five grandchildren, Ben Carey and his wife Heidi, and Maura Carey and Robbie, Alex and Erin Lagay.
   Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown, with the Rev. Michael Burns, pastor, officiating.
   Entombment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Bordentown.
Ruth J. Boston
   ALLENTOWN — Ruth J. Boston, 78, died Sunday, Oct. 7, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.
   Born in Bridgeport, Conn., she lived in Trumbull, Conn., most of her life before moving to Allentown four months ago.
   She was a member of the Pinewood Lake Association and the Pootatuck Yacht Club.
   Wife of the late Harold L. Boston, she is survived by five sons, James of West Haven, Conn., William of Robbinsville, David of Monroe, Harold of Allentown and John of Grapevine, Texas; two daughters, Leslie Dance and Ruth Ehrentraut, both of Naugatuck, Conn.; a sister, Virginia Donovan of Cromwell, Conn.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
   Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 338 N. Main St., Union City, Naugatuck.
   Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Allentown Presbyterian Church, 20 High St.
   Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are by Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
