News failed in vigil coverage

To the editor

As a newspaper known as "The Manville News," I can not believe the lack of coverage, other than a couple pictures of our Sept. 29, 2001, Candle Light Vigil, with 400 to 500 people present.
I would have thought there would have been better coverage. It’s not like there was a lot of other news in the paper. There were several moving speeches by the mayor, Fire Chief Ken Ostremski, Police Chief Jack Petrovic and students from each of the high school classes, just to mention a few.
The entire Manville Fire and Rescue Departments were there in full dress uniform. There was a large turn out of the Manville Police Deptartment, many of whom were on their own time.
The Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts were there. There were several fulltime firemen there from other committees including Jersey City and Irvington.
Although not as noticeable, there was also a police chief and several officers from surrounding communities. Larry Booker from the Franklin Police Deptartment volunteered his services as a member of The Somerset County Drum and Bagpipe Corp. All here to honor their fallen brothers at ground zero.
Weston Sunoco lent their large American flag to Fire Company No. 1 to be proudly displayed on their tower truck over Main Street.
Most touching, at the end of the ceremonies, people spontaneously put their candles around the Manville flag memorial as they left. This was quite a sight in itself.
The Manville News was not the only newspaper with poor coverage, but they are the only one with "Manville" as part of their name, it makes you wonder.
