The following are the results of the Tamarack Women’s 18-Hole Golf Association’s Sept. 18 outing. The game played was best ball with a pro. In Flight A, Dot Wright was the winner with 63, followed by Rita Reisart (64, match of cards) and Elaine Jadacki (64). Carloyn Meyer had low putts of 31. In Flight B, Muriel Feniella was the winner with 63, followed by Doris Kohlberg (64) and Carol Jankowski (66). Judy Weinberg had low putts of 33. In Flight C, Claudia Homoki was the winner with 60, followed by Helen Slomiak (63) and Janice McElhiney (64). Perry Pernice had low putts of 31.

The Knights of Columbus Boxing Club of South River will be holding an amateur boxing night on Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. Tickets for ringside seating are $15, $10 for general admission, and are available at the gym or by calling Dennis Cronin at (732) 246-1518, or Ron Brown at (732) 251-1597.

The Sayreville Lady Bees traveled to Colts Neck and defeated the Crushers 7-0. Julianna Burns led the way on offense for the Lady Bees with two goals and three assists. Ashley Pires netted two goals while Ashlie Renz, Audrey Gagnon and Jolise Aponte chipped in one goal each. Assists were credited to Taylor Miller (two) and Aponte (two). Allie Couzo was untested in goal, posting her second shutout of the season. The strong play of sweeper Kim Moken, fullbacks Julie Giordano and Amanda Mathisen were key to the team’s effort. The Lady Bees are now 4-0-0 on the season.

The Sayreville Stingrays girls soccer team took first place at the Hazlet Columbus Tournament. They were undefeated, beating the Old Bridge Blue Devils, 3-1; Middletown Avalanche, 2-0; Colts Neck Tigers, 2-0, who they also beat in the championship game, 3-2. The Stingrays are: Katy Bednarz, Lynn Bloodgood, Kaitlyn Bouchard, Jillian Buckley, Nicole Dominik, Amanda Fuller, Kerry Heaney, Sarah Janas, Becky Miller, Melissa Mocarski, Stephanie Pires, Melissa Restivo, Amanda Vicari, Ashley Wetzel, and guest player Ashley Pires.

The Old Bridge Flames, a U10 travel team, took first place at the Wall Fall Classic Soccer Tournament. The Flames beat the Ridgewood Maroons-White 6-2, the Ocean Riptide 2-1 and tied the Rancocas Valley Hurricanes 2-2, to advance to the finals. In the finals they played a very tough America United of Elizabeth and won 3-2. The Flames were led by Stephen Morris with seven goals, Michael Monaghan and Melanie Richard with two goals apiece, and Tyler Babrowsky and Alby Ramku with one goal each. A strong defensive effort was provided by Bob Benetti, Russell Ruanto, C.J. Tavernise and Steven Zafrani. Matt Ilaria had another fine effort in goal. Also making strong efforts on offense were Catherine Lovallo and Robbie Sammarco. The Flames are coached by Gary Lovallo and Billy Tavernise.

The Old Bridge Predators, a U-8 travel soccer team, won first place in the Hamilton Invitational Columbus Day Tournament. An incredible offense resulted in 10 goals scored by the team. The tremendous defense limited the opposition to only two goals against the Predators. Team members are Nicholas Villani, Bryan Vientos, Tyler Vasquez, Jake Ptakiwicz, Patrick O’Donnell, Kevin McCartney, Gregory Kaye, Aaron Hart, Zachary Einwechter, Marcus Colin, Robert Casari, Michael Bunis and Brandon Allen. Rob Vasquez, Paul Allen and Glenn Kaye coach the Predators.

Sayreville Recreation Wrestling continues to hold registration weekdays at the Recreation Office on Dolan Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is open to students in Sayreville and South Amboy through the eighth grade.

The Sayreville Sonics U12 travel soccer team took home first place in the Wall Fall Classic Tournament held on Oct. 6 and 7. Goals were scored by Michael Batko, Kevin Black, Matt Colgan, P.J. Gary, Ryan Hawk and Jarrett Jirak. The team was a dominant force all weekend both offensively and defensively. Teammates sharing the victory are Bryan Miksiewicz, Sean Mosser, Ryan Reed, Tom Serpico, Chris Stratton, Michael Weber, David Zack and goal keeper, Jason Tash. The Sonics regular season record in the Monmouth-Ocean Soccer Association’s National 2 division is 2-2-0. They are coached by Rob Hawk, Mike Serpico and Ted Miksiewicz.

The Level 4 and 5 teams of Worldwide Gymnastics, Old Bridge, under the coaching efforts of Alesia Plock, competed in their first meet of the season at Henderson’s Gym in Edison on Sept. 30.

The Level 4 team earned first place, and the Level 5 team earned second. From the Level 4 team, (6-8-year-olds) Kimberly Acer took third on the bars, second on beam and floor, and first in the all-around; Taryn McGrane took eighth on vault, 11th on beam, 13th on floor and 13th on all-around; and Sydney Wasserberger took fifth on vault, ninth on bars, seventh on beam, first on floor and fourth on all-around. Of the 9-year-olds, Jennifer Gellman took fifth on vault, sixth on bars, second on beam, third on floor and fourth on all-around; Katherine Hungrige took second on vault, third on bars, first on beam, seventh on floor and second in all-around; and Marisa Simone took fourth on vault, sixth on bars and beam, fifth on floor, and sixth on all-around. Of the 10-14-year-olds, Stephanie Giacalone took first on vault, fourth on bars and beam, second on floor and fourth on all-around; and Kristina Hungrige took second on vault, bars and beam, fourth on floor, and sixth in the all-around. On the Level 5 team (6-8-year-olds), Stephanie Fasano took second on vault, bars, beam, and all-around, and first on floor. Of the 9-10-year-olds, Kaitlin Percheski took second on the vault, sixth on bars, fourth on beam, first on floor and second on all-around; and Nicole Yee took fifth on vault, second on bars, fifth on beam, second on floor, and third in the all-around.

In the Mayor’s Trophy games between the Sayreville Leprechauns and the Morgan-Parlin Panthers, the two teams split the four games. In the Mighty Mites game, the Panthers won 21-14. Monroe TDs came from Rich Bothmann (two) and Troy Johnson. Aaron Radich scored twice for the Leprechauns. In the Junior PeeWees game, the Leprechauns squeaked out a 12-7 win, behind the fine play of R.J. Small, Glenn Wagner and Tyler Danielson. The Leprechaun PeeWees lost to the Panthers 12-0, who got a pair of touchdowns from Mike Negron. Meanwhile, the Leprechaun Midgets won their game 8-0, behind a 67-yard TD pass from Aaron Payne to Shane Robinson.
