The recent resignation of Hopewell Township Committeewoman Kathleen Bird has left a vacancy on the governing body.
At the regular meeting of the committee on Oct. 18, the four current committee members plan to vote on the appointment of a new committeeman to fill the balance of Ms. Bird’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2002.
Mr. Bird originally planned to resign on Sept. 6, but decided to remain on the committee until the downzoning ordinances were adopted. These measures got OKs Sept. 20. Ms. Bird then resigned and was appointed to a post on the Planning Board.
Pursuant to state statute, the vacancy must be filled by a process wherein the party of the person whose seat is vacated provides the names of three candidates to the governing body, which shall make an appointment within 30 days of the occurrence of the vacancy.
Thus, the Democratic Party has forwarded the following names to the Township Committee for members’ consideration: Herb Detrick of Pennington-Lawrenceville Road, Peter Nichols of Navesink Drive, and Vanessa Sandom of Harbourton-Ridge Road.
