   The Allentown Garden Club meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Allentown Methodist Church on Church Street, Allentown. Members will create wreaths out of amaranth that can be hung inside or outside for the birds in winter. Pre-registration is not necessary. The public is welcome to attend. Bring $10-$12 cash for materials, a pruner or scissors, and an interchangeable tip screwdriver. Extra screwdrivers will be on hand for participants who don’t have their own.
   The club meets at 7 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. Beginners and experts from all surrounding areas are welcome. For more information contact Lisa Strovinsky, 259-1886.

   The library and technology staff at Millstone Elementary School are having a family night from 7 to 8:30 p.m., in the media center and computer lab. Second-grade students from Mrs. Taylor’s, Mrs. Schiumo’s and Mrs. Reynoso’s classes along with their parents are invited to share the joy of reading and technology.
   Family night for students in Mrs. Hillman’s, Mrs. Sosinski’s, Mrs. Lucy’s and Mrs. Campion’s classes will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18.

   S.A.F.E. (School-Age Fun and Enrichment) celebrates "Lights On," a day of nationwide rallies to call attention to the importance of after-school programs for children, families and communities. The lights will be on at Windsor School, Sharon Elementary School and Pond Road Middle School from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
   All parents, school administrators and teachers, friends of the community and elected officials are invited to "After-school Appreciation Day." For information, call the S.A.F.E. office at 259-1547.
Friday, Oct. 12
   The Allentown Lions Club is holding its annual golf tournament at Gambler Ridge Golf Course in Cream Ridge. This is a memorial tournament to honor C. Edward "Pop" Rockhill, a loyal and dedicated member of the Lions Club. Support of the golf outing will enable the club to provide many community projects.
   A portion of the proceeds will be allocated to help the World Trade Disaster Fund. Cost is $95 per player and will include all golf fees, cart, dinner and prizes. Call Bill Morris at 259-2046 or Gambler Ridge Golf Course.
Saturday, Oct. 13
   Registration for the eighth annual Tomm May 5K run and nature trail fun walk is from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. at Tantum Park, Meadowbrook Road, Robbinsville. The nature trail fun walk begins at 9:30 a.m. and the 5K run begins at 10 a.m. Registration for the run is $15 on the day of the run or $12 if payment is received before Oct. 11.
   The fun walk fee is $10. Free T-shirts to pre-registration entrants and while supplies last to day of event entrants. Prize money awarded to top three males and females. For more information or registration form call the Washington Township Recreation Division at 259-7082, ext. 110.

   The Allentown Harvest Festival is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 13 and 14. The two-day festival sponsored by the Allentown Business Community Association will host crafters, artisans, entertainment and a Civil War encampment
   The Allentown-Upper Freehold Historical Society will hold its "Tea for 2 or 4 or more …" from 12 to 4 p.m., Oct. 13, at 41 S. Main St. as part of the festival. Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $3.75 children under 12. The annual fund-raiser uses the proceeds from the tea for presenting programs for the public on local history and historical research.
   During the festival, the Men’s Fellowship of Union AME Church will host a chicken dinner sale from noon to 4 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 13 in the church fellowship hall, 72 Church St., Allentown. The price per dinner: $8. Please call in advance to place your order. Dinner proceeds will benefit Union’s Men’s Day. The Women’s Fellowship will also host a yard sale in the church parking lot to benefit Women’s Day. For more information, call 259-0483.

   The Washington Township PTA is holding a 5-mile walk/run and dinner to aid the victims of the Sept. 11 tragedy. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and is open to all students, families and community members. The event will begin and end at the Pond Road Middle School. The dinner will include seatings at 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 per person. Children under 5 are free.

   The Washington Township Board of Education will hold a special board workshop meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Washington Township District Office, 1079 Washington Blvd., Robbinsville. Action will be taken.

   Andover Glen at Foxmoor Board of Directors will sponsor a Washington Township Committee meet-the-candidates night at 7 p.m., in the Foxmoor Clubhouse on Hutchinson Road. In lieu of the monthly board meeting, the floor will be yielded to the candidates. Rich Catana, board president, will moderate the meeting. All residents of Washington Township are invited to attend.
Friday, Oct. 19
   Storyteller Rebecca Kelly will be at the Allentown Public Library at 7 p.m. Ms. Kelly will present stories for children age 8- to 12-years-old. The event is sponsored by First Washington State Bank.
Saturday, Oct. 20
   The Millstone Township Women’s Organization is hosting a "Millstone for America" fund-raiser to benefit the American Red Cross from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Clarksburg Inn Pavillion, Route 524, Clarksburg. Donation: $50 per person. Buffet dinner and open bar. Patriotic attire is recommended.    The Monmouth County Genealogy Society is presenting a course, Getting Started in Genealogy, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Millstone Township Community Center on Route 524 in Perrineville.
   Topics covered will include the federal census, naturalization, family history centers, vital records and Ellis Island. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members when registered in advance.
