Vigil, donations prove’united we stand’

To the editor

On behalf of the volunteers of the Manville Fire Department and First Aid and Rescue Squad, the mayor and council of the Borough of Manville wish a heartfelt thank you to all the people of Manville and Somerset County for your charity directed at the emergency personnel of the World Trade Center attack.
On Friday, Sept. 28th, the citizens of Manville conducted an emotional "Day of Remembrance" vigil, outside our municipal building. No one will ever forget all the adults and children placing their candles at the base of the U.S. flag in memorial to all the victims and their families of the World Trade Center tragedy.
The next day, the Manville Fire Department and Rescue Squad set out to collect money for their fallen brothers and sisters in front of Wal-Mart, Foodtown, Dunkin Donuts and Drug Fair. Many people already donated to other funds, but felt the need to contribute further. The volunteers collected an astounding $4,000.50. We are trying to get a company to match the $4,000 collected. The money will go to assist the families of police, fire and emergency service employees who were killed or missing in the attack.
Again, we thank all the people of Manville and Somerset County for making this fund raiser a complete success during a time of national tragedy.
   United we stand.
