PRINCETON JUNCTION
Peggy Brennan, sales associate with the Princeton Junction office of Coldwell Banker, grew up in Cranbury, moved to Hightstown with her husband when they were raising their children, and then moved back to Cranbury. No matter where she lived, since her childhood, her home was always of historic interest. "I guess when you grow up in a historic house, you always want to live in one. In fact, our four sons now live in historic homes with their families,’ commented Brennan. "The Cranbury house my husband and I are in currently has sections that were built as early as 1839 and 1861. The house we owned in Hightstown was built circa 1820."
Ms. Brennan’s love and interest in historic homes encouraged her to join a number of historical societies and complete several books about the history of the area. Her books in the ‘Images of America" series include two paperbacks on Cranbury and one on the Hightstown-East Windsor area. "The books are a compilation of photographs from the past, with in-depth captions explaining the significance of the photo and the subject matter," explained the former high school English teacher. The books provide a visual history of each town and celebrate the proud heritage of these communities. The series is available in bookstores.
Photos were obtained on loan from historical societies and through personal contacts. "Since I grew up in the area, I knew most of the families who had been here for years and many of them were willing to let me borrow their photos for the book. They all were so generous with their family’s past. It was wonderful," said Ms. Brennan.
Ms. Brennan was also awarded the designation of Historical Home Specialist after completing a course presented by the National Historic Trust in Washington, D.C. "The course gave me an excellent opportunity to organize so much of the information I had gained by simply living in vintage homes. And, it provided me with the more technical details for each time period, like specific architectural designs and historical structural techniques, that now help me date the historic homes I represent in my business," explained Ms. Brennan.
Ms. Brennan and her husband have a weekly column in the Cranbury Press called "Retrospective". It contains excerpts of articles from past local papers published as far back as 100 years. The articles help educate current readers about the past and give them an interesting perspective on the present according to Ms. Brennan.
Ms. Brennan, a sales associate for the past 20 years, was named to the Coldwell Banker prestigious president’s Club in 1999. She achieved the Bronze Level in the NJAR Million Dollar Club in 2000.
