Freehold’s Mike Kelly had a hand in Monmouth University’s first two wins of the baseball season. The Freehold Borough graduate hurled 1.1 innings of hitless ball to pick up the save in Monmouth’s 6-3 win over Iona College in Florida. Kelly also went 2-3 and had three RBI. He scored the first run of the game when he stole home.

Monmouth blanked LaSalle University, Philadelphia, 11-0, picking up its second straight win. Kelly, a sophomore, was 3-5 with an RBI and another stolen base.

Monmouth remains in Florida through March. The Hawks will play their first home games in West Long Branch on March 29 and 30 against Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison.

Hank Petner of Morganville was victorious for the third straight year at the United States Indoor Archery Champion-ships, held at James Madison University, Harrisburg, Va. Petner placed first in the 65 and up division in the compound freestyle limited. He is a member of the Summit Archers club.

Registration for the Colonial Youth Track Club will be held on Monday and Tuesday, and again on April 10 and 11 at Freehold Borough High School from 6:30-7:30 p.m. There is no residency requirement and the club is for boys and girls ages 5-14. Fee is $25. Call (732) 577-8310 for more information.

Knob Hill Golf Club, Manalapan, will again play host to the Ladies Professional Golf Association FUTURES Golf Tour with the $60,000 Garden State FUTURES Golf Classic Aug. 2-4. This is the second straight year that the LPGA developmental tour, where the future stars of ladies’ golf are playing, has come to the par-71, Mark McCumber Signature championship golf course that opened in 1998.

Manalapan Parks and Recreation is offering a youth field hockey program to resident children in grades six through eight. The program will take place on Saturday mornings starting April 6 and run through June 1. Hours are 8:30-10 a.m. The program will be held at the Manalapan Recreation Center on Route 522. The fee is $30 per person. The program is instruction, however, games will played. Participants must provide their own mouth guard and shin guards. The Monmouth County Park System and Friends of the Park, a nonprofit organization formed to support the efforts of the park system, will host the March for Parks on April 20 at the Manasquan Reservoir, Windeler Road, Howell. The reservoir is a five-mile perimeter trail that is an ideal site for walkers and bicyclists to march and raise funds for the park system’s trails. Monmouth Worship Center, 176 Route 79, Marlboro, will host its own March Madness at the church on Saturday. Open house is 4:30-10 p.m. Come and watch the NCAA basketball tournament on a giant 12-by-14-foot screen. Admission is free and all ages are welcome to attend.

The Lakewood BlueClaws have announced that the name and logo of their stadium has been changed from GPU Energy Park to FirstEnergy Park. The name change comes three months after FirstEnergy Corp. purchased GPU Energy’s parent corporation, GPU Inc. The BlueClaws are the Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. They open the season on the road on April 4 at Kannapolis. The home opener for the BlueClaws is April 8 against Delmarva at 6:35 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (732) 901-7000, option 2.
