MATILDA T. PFEIFER, 83, of Freehold died March 5 at home. Born in Passaic, she lived in Farmingdale before moving to Freehold in 1936. She was a sewing machine operator for Fred Polchak Atlantic Frocks, Freehold, for 25 years, retiring 43 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, and a 50-year member of Court No. 737 St. Rose of Lima Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Mrs. Pfeifer was a volunteer at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, for more than 20 years, and at the John L. Montgomery Medical Home, also in Freehold Township, for 15 years. She was predeceased by her first husband, George Pavlovic, in 1944. She is survived by her husband, Bernard H.; three daughters, Kathleen Morton of Spring Lake Heights, Barbara Mitchell of Cream Ridge section of Upper Freehold and Christine Falcone of Hamilton Square; two sons, Dr. Bernard Pfeifer of Carlisle, Mass., and Andrew Pfeifer of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two brothers, John Grega of Freehold Township and Steve Graga of Howell; two sisters, Anna Marazita of Freehold and Mary Vasseur of Florence, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Freehold Township.

ROSE PETERSON, 87, of Manahawkin died March 7 at Genesis Eldercare Center, Manahawkin. Born in New York City, she had lived in Millstone for many years before moving to Manahawkin 12 years ago. Mrs. Peterson was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin F. Sr., who died in 1987. She is survived by a son, Robert Jr. of Manahawkin; a daughter, Rose Marie Breese of Hightstown; a brother, William Othold of White Horse; seven grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Entombment was at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge.

WALTER MONTGOMERY BROWN, 94, of Freehold Township died March 13 at Freehold Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Freehold Township. Born in Harrison, he had lived in Freehold Township since 1967. A 1928 graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering, he was employed by General Electric Co., Lynn, Mass., for two years; Consolidated Edison Co. of New York for 12 years, and Combustion Engineering (Lummus Co.), Bloomfield, for 25 years before retiring in 1967. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Freehold, where he served on the church council for several years, including four terms as council president. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris, who died in April. He is survived by a son, James M. of Chatham; a daughter, Jeanne E. Pearson of Massapequa, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Grace Lutheran Church.
