The Allentown United’s U-14 (coed) soccer team extended its Jersey Coast unbeaten streak to 13 matches with a well-played 5-1 decision over the Berkeley Kickers Saturday. United was tested early as the Kickers jumped out to a mid-first-half 1-0 lead. The Kickers defense kept United’s offense off-balance early on, but United managed a late first-half goal by winger Nate Cornell to go to intermission knotted at 1-1. United’s offense exploded early and often in the second half for four goals to put the match out of reach. Cornell’s second goal led a balanced United attack, with single goals from forwards Brian Pereira, Jonathan Mumpower and winger Jen Taylor. Mid-fielders Danny DiRocco and George Lemanski directed the offense while United got another outstanding effort from goalie Richard Switlik. United’s win upped the squad’s record to 3-0-1 and moved them into sole possession of second place as they prepare for Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. home match against the LMSA Hurricanes at Patriots Park in Jackson.

The Allentown United U-11 travel soccer team has now run their unbeaten streak to three games. They have been unscored upon in all three games since losing the season opener. They began the week with a 2-0 victory over the TRY Dynomites. Dean Search scored off a nice assist from Matt Frein. Connor Darrell scored the insurance goal to put the game out of reach. The United played one of their finest games to date, displaying excellent ball movement and tough defense throughout the match. The United played the Berkley Scorpions this past Saturday and came away with a 1-0 victory as Danny Bailey put in a penalty shot for the lone score. The United dominated the game throughout and had numerous scoring chances only to be thwarted by the Scorpions’ fine goalie. Despite hitting several shots off the goal posts, the United were not frustrated as they kept the pressure on for the entire match, displaying crisp ball movement and relentlessly attacking. The defense was led by Kevin Bux, Danny Bailey, Haley Wilhelm and Danny Santos who continue to frustrate the opposition and set the tone for the game. Alex Fortsch mans the nets and continues to make the big play when called upon. The United play the Pinelands Jr. Wildcats in an away game this Saturday.

The Soccer Association of Upper Freehold/Allentown will conduct a soccer coaching clinic in Allentown’s High School gymnasium tonight at 6 o’clock. This will be an informative session, and prospective coaches and parents are welcome as well.
