to host 5K run and walk

The Ocean County College Alumni Association is sponsoring its fifth annual Campus 5K Run and Fitness Walk June 1 at 9:30 a.m. A 1-mile fun run begins at 9 a.m. The United States America Track and Field-sanctioned event with certified course will take place on a newly designed course through the Ocean County College campus in Toms River. Proceeds from sponsor donations and registration fees will benefit the Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Computer scoring includes postcard results by Compuscore. The top three male and female overall winners, and top Ocean County College alumna will receive 5K awards. Awards also go to the top three males and females in each age group: 14-and-under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70-plus.

T-shirts will be supplied for 5K runners (while supplies last), ribbons will go to all 1-mile fun-runners, and post-race refreshments will be provided. All participants will also be eligible for prize drawings at the awards ceremony.

Sponsorship is provided by Alert Ambulance Services Inc., Horizon Blue Cross/Blue Shield, New Jersey Natural Gas and Sovereign Bank.

Preregistration fees are $12 (5K) and $10 (Fun Run.) Race-day registration begins at 8 a.m. with fees increasing to $15 (5K) and $12 (Fun Run). To register call at (732) 255-0494.

Memorial Day kicks off Great Adventure season

Six Flags Great Adventure, Route 537, Jackson, will launch the 2002 summer season on May 25 with daily park operation, a family entertainment program, evening fireworks, concerts and the opening of Six Flags Hurricane Harbor water park.

Following are some of the Memorial Day weekend shows and events:

• New – Debuting May 25 – Circo Magnifico – A variety of acrobats will perform in the Showcase Theater, daily through Labor Day;

• New – Debuting May 25 – America! – This fireworks production will run nightly when the park is open until 10 p.m.;

• May 27 – 6 p.m. – The Charlie Daniels Band and 38 Special.

Meeting about Jackson

Day concessions

Jackson Day 2002 will be held on Sept. 21 with a rain date of Sept. 22. The first Jackson Day concession meeting will be held on May 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the court room in the Jackson municipal building on Jackson Drive.

All Jackson-based nonprofit organizations will receive their first concession free of charge. This rule does not pertain to organizations not located in Jackson, political organizations, or organizations sponsoring a commercial vendor. Organizations will be charged if they wish to apply for a second item at the second concession meeting scheduled for July 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the same location.
