Seaport to build boat at stadium

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood Blue-Claws are holding a special promotion with Tuckerton Seaport Memorial Day weekend.

Employees of the seaport will be putting together a small fishing boat at the ballpark on May 26 that one fan will win that day.

In addition to giving away the boat, the BlueClaws will also be distributing foam claws to the first 2,000 fans 16 and under. The foam claws will have the logo of Tuckerton Seaport and the BlueClaws.

"As a relatively new site for tourists, we want to make sure we’re working with the other wonderful attractions along the Jersey Shore," said Geoff Brown, Blue-Claws general manager. "Tuckerton Sea-port is one of the most beautiful places in Ocean County, and this is a unique promotion. I don’t know of any other team that is giving away a boat."

The boat that will be built will be a 10-foot version of the famous New Jersey Garvey, the traditional Jersey Shore work boat used by baymen for generations. Fans must be at least 17 to enter the contest.

"The BlueClaws have been very successful," said Tuckerton Seaport Executive Director John Gormley. "We are trying to build further north in Ocean County, as well as Monmouth County, and this is a great way to publicize one of the area’s hidden treasures."

The BlueClaws are back at home May 21-26. Reserve tickets are available for each date during the home games. For tickets, call (732) 901-7000 option 2.
