EAST WINDSOR — An angry man stabbed an employee in the parking lot of ShopRite on Route 130 North May 17 after his car collided with shopping carts, police said.
Julio Martin Reyes-Vega, 36, stabbed the 30-year-old man at 9:55 p.m., according to a police press release. Police said Mr. Reyes-Vega was angered after his station wagon hit shopping carts that the unnamed victim was working with.
The victim, an East Windsor resident, was stabbed in the upper abdomen, according to police.
He was taken to Capital Health Systems Fuld Campus in Trenton and was treated for an abdominal stab wound and related injuries. He was released from the hospital after treatment.
Mr. Reyes-Vega of Monroe, who was driving a Ford Escort wagon through the lot, struck the shopping carts with which the victim was wrangling. After hitting the carts he exited his car and began arguing with the victim. He then drew a knife and stabbed the victim, got in his car and drove away, police said.
Police said his car was later stopped in Monroe Township by East Windsor and Monroe police. His wife was driving at the time.
Mr. Reyes-Vega was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. His bail was set at $20,000.
Mr. Reyes-Vega is currently at the Mercer County Correction Center in Hopewell.
