The Board of Deacons at the First Presbyterian Church will put the "berry" into Cranbury on June 1.
The annual Strawberry Festival is set to be held that afternoon from 4 to 8 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury.
Families are invited to enjoy an afternoon of games, entertainment and barbecue, sponsored by the Board of Deacons at the church.
"It’s a great opportunity for families to make a whole evening out of it," said Anne Gordon, a member of the Board of Deacons. "Parents can relax and enjoy the food, have dinner and dessert, while the kids can just play and have fun."
The outdoor festivities will include a tour of a Cranbury First Aid Squad vehicle, Cranbury Fire Department truck and a Cranbury police vehicle. A Scottish Dancing performance and appearance by Otto T. Clown will add to the festive occasion.
Families can dine on hot dogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers that will be for sale outside.
Children will be able to try their skills at some of the new games that will be at this year’s festival, including Shark Pool and Froggy. The children receive a feather for each game they participate in, which is then made into an Indian headdress.
"The more games they play, the more feathers they get," said Ms. Gordon.
The highlight of the afternoon, however, will be a generous portion of pound cake topped with ice cream and fresh strawberries. The rich dessert is always the biggest draw of the festival for people looking to appease their sweet tooth.
"It’s a fun community event," said Ms. Gordon. "We draw in people from all over."
Admission into the event is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Tickets may be purchased at the church office during the week or at the door the day of the festival.
All proceeds of the strawberry festival benefit the Deacon Benevolence Fund.
