Thanks to Memorial Day parade supporters

The weather turned out good, the veterans came to participate, and the crowds were great and thankful to the veterans. More than 101 veterans turned out (lost a few to a new parade in Keyport at the same time), with 12 new veterans.

A special thanks to all the churches, temples, civic and social organizations for their support; to the 305th Air Mobility Wing, McGuire AFB for the three Humvees used to transport the veterans who could not walk; Girl Scouts Jillian Hassler (Troop 1407) and Coleen McAleer (Troop 1408) for carrying the veterans banner; and to the Matawan Recreation Director Sheila Flamm for her outstanding support.

A special thanks to the great crowds that cheered us on with signs of support and applause. It was a great day for America and our great country. Again, thanks to all veterans, and we look forward to the Matawan Memorial Day parade May 25, 2003.

Rheinhardt "Bud" Hassler,

retired chief master sergeant of the Air Force
