Main Street will be closed on Monday to make way for filming equipment and movie stars.
Township officials say Sony Pictures will be filming scenes next week for its upcoming movie, "Anger Management," which is expected to be released in the summer of 2003.
The comedy stars Saturday Night Live alumnus Adam Sandler as Dave Buznik, a timid businessman who is sentenced to an anger management program, where he meets ultra-aggressive counselor Buddy Rydell, played by Academy Award winner Jack Nicholson. Fellow Oscar-winner Marisa Tomei, Jon Turturro and Luis Guzman will co-star in the film.
According to Township Administrator Fred Carr, one scene in the movie that involves Mr. Sandler and Mr. Nicholson will be shot in front of the Princeton Ballet building on Main Street.
"They will be taking the Princeton Ballet facade and reconfiguring it to a gas station, which is what it used to be a few years ago," said Mr. Carr.
Police Chief Harry Kleinkauf said a portion of Main Street, extending north from Scott Avenue to Park Place, will be blocked off from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the filming.
Although the west side of Main Street will be used for the film shoot, Chief Kleinkauf and Mr. Carr said, the east side of the street will be free to public access.
Chief Kleinkauf said community members hoping to get a glimpse of the action should stand near the PNC Bank building, across the street from the filming location.
On Tuesday, Cranbury Neck Road and Ancil Davison Road will be briefly closed to film a driving scene. Chief Kleinkauf could not specify when this filming will take place or for how long these roads will be closed.
"It should probably take about four hours," said Chief Kleinkauf. "We won’t be blocking the road the whole time. For a few minutes when they’re in motion, though, we will stop traffic."
Cranbury’s buildings and landscapes have been featured in various commercials and movies in the past, including 1994’s "I.Q.," which starred Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins and Walter Matthau
