A Freehold resident was one of four Ranney School seniors, out of a senior class of 36 students, who were named Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholars for 2003-04, said Ranney Upper School Head Andrew Martire. The school is located in Tinton Falls.
Priscilla Cheng, Tinton Falls; Ashwin Krishnan, Freehold; Neil Rajan, Middletown; and Emily Yu, Toms River, were selected to receive scholarships of $1,000 each in recognition of their high scholastic achievement, according to a press release.
"These four students are representative of the type of exceptionally qualified young people who will be leading our nation in the years ahead," said Martire. "Each of them exemplifies in his or her own way the traits of academic excellence and outstanding character that we seek to instill in all our students."
To be selected as Bloustein scholars, students must place in the top 10 percent of their class and have a minimum combined SAT score of 1,260, or must be ranked first, second or third in their class as of the end of junior year. For the current group of Bloustein scholars statewide, the average SAT verbal score is 669 and the average SAT math score is 690.
The Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar Award is part of the Garden State Scholarship Program, which is administered by the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority, an independent agency of the State of New Jersey. Students may use these awards to continue their education at New Jersey institutions of higher education.
