FREEHOLD — Separate incidents required the presence of police at the Village Bar, Park Avenue, on Feb. 9 and 10.
According to Freehold Borough Police Capt. Michael DiAiso, Jason Venose, 25, of Howell was charged with driving while intoxicated and other violations on Feb. 9 at 10:45 p.m. while in the parking lot of the bar.
DiAiso said Freehold Township police officers observed what appeared to be an underage liquor transaction taking place at the bar. They observed a male coming out of the bar walking toward a vehicle. The male placed beer on the trunk of the vehicle whose engine was running.
Police proceeded to ask Venose, the operator of the vehicle, for his license and insurance papers. After observing the driver to be intoxicated and after he refused to take a balance test, he was placed under arrest by the Freehold Township police officers, DiAiso said.
A second incident that brought police to the bar occurred on Feb. 10 at 9:05 p.m.
DiAiso said charges of disorderly conduct, obstruction of the administration of the law and giving a false address were lodged against Gregory Gilroy, 38, of Freehold Township.
DiAiso said Gilroy was asked to leave the bar by bar employees and refused. After numerous attempts to get him to leave the premises, police were summoned.
Freehold Borough police officers arrived and advised Gilroy to leave the bar, explaining to the man that he was no longer welcome in the bar. According to DiAiso, Gilroy repeatedly refused to leave the bar, but instead continued to ignore police officers while he sat at the bar and ate snacks.
The captain said Gilroy began to get loud, disruptive and extremely uncooperative.
DiAiso said the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad was called in to evaluate Gilroy. He was then placed under arrest by four borough officers. Gilroy was placed in the Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township, in default of $2,500.
