Phoenix Productions will hold auditions for its fall production of West Side Story Aug. 12 from 7-10 p.m. at the Phoenix Studio Theatre, 111 Monmouth St., Red Bank. Auditioners are expected to bring a song they can both sing and act. Dancers should audition with a 30-second CD or tape that demonstrates their best dance sequences. Dancers do not have to sing, but everyone should bring clothing and shoes to dance. All roles are open. There are no children in the cast. The show will open Oct. 31 and run for two weekends.
In addition, Phoenix Productions will host "Dance Challenge 2003" Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Count Basie Theatre, 99 Monmouth St., Red Bank. These auditions will offer an opportunity for dancers to compete for a chance to work with some of the area’s top choreographers, be showcased in West Side Story, win scholarship money, and learn how to break into Broadway, as they meet some of Broadway’s "gypsies."
