William McGuire was named the Ocean County Athletic Director of the Year for 2002-03 by the Ocean County Directors of Athletics recently.

He received the honor during the 11th Annual Ocean County Sportsmanship Awards luncheon.

"I am honored to have been chosen Athletic Director of the Year by my peers," he said. "Throughout my years as AD, I strove to uphold Brick Township’s fine reputation of athletic success and good sportsmanship. To be recognized for that work is humbling and is truly a testament to the people of our community and our student athletes."

McGuire served as the athletic director for the Brick Township school district from 1999 until his retirement from that post in December 2002. McGuire, who is a candidate for the Township Council in this year’s election, has spent 32 years in education, 29 of which were spent serving the people of Brick as a teacher, administrator, coach and athletic director.

McGuire is one of the most successful coaches in the history of Shore Conference athletics, having coached the Brick Township High School girls’ cross country team to numerous county, conference and state championships.

"It has been a great privilege to serve our community and particularly the young people of Brick Township for the past three decades," McGuire said. "I am looking forward to continuing to work for the people of Brick Township in the future."
