Since its inception in 1975, Community Medical Center’s Second Time Around Consignment Shop, located at 200 Corporate Circle in Corporate Park North, Toms River, has been a major contributor to the success of the hospital’s auxiliary. In 2002, the Second Time Around Shop reached a major milestone in its history, realizing $2 million in total funds raised through the sale of used and consignment items.

Recently, the more than 160 volunteers who keep the shop running on a daily basis were recognized by the hospital and its foundation at the shop’s annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon. Lorraine Larsen, vice president of the shop, was presented with a plaque in honor of surpassing the $2 million contribution mark. For more information about the shop, call (732) 341-5191.

Darlene Dreyer, executive director of the Brick-based Garden State Philharmonic, was elected secretary of the American Symphony Orchestra League’s Policy Committee C at the League’s annual national conference in San Francisco.

The League’s 900 member orchestras are divided into three policy committees, which are based on orchestras’ total expense budgets. Policy Committee A is comprised of the largest budget orchestras, B of midsize budget orchestras, and C of the smaller budget orchestras. Policy committee officers meet with managers of similar-size orchestras, develop content and meeting agendas, and advise the league board on programs and services of value to its member orchestras. Issues common to all orchestras –– artistic, financial and organizational –– are at the forefront of policy committee meetings and discussions.

The Quality Inn, 815 Route 37, Toms River, has, once again, received the Gold Hospitality Award from Choice Hotels International, franchiser of the Quality hotel brand. The Gold Hospitality Award is presented annually to hotels that exceed Choice’s rigid quality assurance standards.

Ocean County Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari recently received the Stivale D’Italia Award of Excellence from the Italian Tribune which recognized his outstanding achievements and accomplishments. The Italian American community of Ocean County was recently honored in a special July 4 edition of the Italian Tribune.

Michael Weiss, M.D., has been appointed to the staff at Community Medical Center in Toms River. He is a board-certified radiation oncologist, and was previously the chief resident in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
