Jewish Federation welcomes cease-fire pact

The Jewish Federation of Greater Monmouth County, the umbrella organization for the organized Jewish community in Monmouth, welcomes the cease-fire agreement brokered by [Palestinian] Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas. We urge him to move quickly to dismantle all terrorist groups as mandated by the "Road Map to Peace."

As President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell have noted, a cease-fire is a starting point. Steps must be taken to dismantle these terrorist organizations, which involve disarming members of the terrorist groups, arresting those responsible for the suicide bombings and stopping the flow of funds to these groups.

Prime Minister Abbas and the Palestinian Authority must take the necessary concrete steps to permanently end all acts of terror against all Israelis, with no time limits and no geographical restrictions. We applaud President Bush and his administration for its continuing strong efforts to address the challenge of global terrorism.
