Chuck Mangione’s 40-year career began as a trumpeter in a band called the Jazz Brothers while attending the Eastman School of Music at Rochester (N.Y.) University. Mangione eventually left home to play with Art Bailey and the Jazz Messengers. He also served as the music director of the Eastman School of Music Jazz Ensemble.

After a live concert with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Mangione recorded an album with Mercury Records and received his first Grammy nomination. He received another nomination for his album Land of Make Believe. Mangione won his first Grammy for the song "Bellavia," which was named to honor his mother. In the late 1970s, Mangione won a Golden Globe and his second Grammy for his double-album soundtrack The Children of Sanchez. His tune "Give It All You Got" was heard around the world as the theme song of the 1980 Winter Games in Lake Placid, N.Y.

During the 1980s, Mangione signed on with Columbia records and released several albums, including Love Notes, Journey to a Rainbow, Disguise and Save Tonight for Me. He was frequently invited to play "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the beginning of the New York Yankees home games at Yankee Stadium. Following the 1989 release of Boys From Rochester and Chuck Mangione Live at the Village Gate, Mangione took a three-year, self-imposed hiatus from the music industry. Now back on tour, Mangione is also caricatured on the Fox animated television show King of the Hill.
