JOSEPH J. STRANO, 65, of Atlantic Highlands died July 21 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York City. Born in Newark, he resided in Holmdel prior to moving to Atlantic Highlands five years ago. He was a professor at New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, since 1959, and received its Excellence in Teaching Award in 1995. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. He received his doctor of philosophy degree at Rutgers University, New Brunswick; he was a registered professional engineer and the recipient of National Science Foundation fellowships at both Rutgers and Stevens Institute of Technology. He was an avid fisherman and conservationist. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph P. Strano. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, JoAnn Strano of Atlantic Highlands; his mother, Nicolina Ribolotti Strano; his sister and brother-in-law, Diane C. and George C. Van Ness of Manalapan; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. MAY L. BRYCE, 73, of Freehold Township died July 31 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Freehold Township 12 years ago. Mrs. Bryce was a seamstress and gourmet cook. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, and volunteered at the parish in various capacities. She was predeceased by a brother, Frank. Mrs. Bryce is survived by her husband, Martin J. Bryce Jr.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Martin J. Bryce III of Larkspur, Calif., and Mark S. and Andrea Bryce of Petaluma, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Michael Silvestro of Old Bridge; a brother, Joseph Farello of Holmdel; two sisters, Anna Rose Leonardo of Staten Island and Marie Farello of Matawan; and one granddaughter. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Rose of Lima Chapel, Freehold, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.

JAMES E. DUGAN, 79, of Howell died July 31 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in the Bradevelt section of Marlboro, Mr. Dugan lived there before moving to Howell a year ago. He was a partner in his family business, the F.J. Dugan & Sons Feed, Grain and Coal Co., Marlboro, for 20 years. After his years in the family business, he was employed as an operating engineer for National Lead Co., Perth Amboy, and then retired as chief engineer after 17 years at the W.C.I. Corp., Edison. Mr. Dugan was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater on the Destroyer Escort 343, USS Abercrombie. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 1454, Freehold; and local No. 68, Operating Engineers, AFLCIO, West Caldwell. He was predeceased by a son, James Dugan, in 1960, and a daughter, Regina M. Dugan, in 1995. Mr. Dugan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alice Krystoff Dugan; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Cynthia Dugan of Aberdeen; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah A. and Richard Galatro of Oakhurst, and Carolyn Dugan of Holmdel; two brothers, Frank J. Dugan Jr. of Matawan and Jack Dugan of Freehold Township; a sister, Sara Frank of Howell; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Gabriel’s Church, followed by interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Marlboro.

ALBA SYLVIA PISTORIO SIGNORIELLO, 77, of Manalapan died July 31 at home. Born in Messina, Sicily, she lived in Staten Island, N.Y., for 34 years before moving to Covered Bridge in Manalapan 22 years ago. Mrs. Signoriello came to the United States on the U.S. hospital ship Algonquin in 1946. She was a member of Monmouth Worship Center, Marlboro. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, George W. Signoriello; three sons, Frank N. Signoriello of Colorado Springs, Colo., Vincent J. Signoriello of Matawan and George W. Signoriello Jr. of East Brunswick; four daughters, Antonia Westgate of Pocono Summit, Pa., Josephine Crain of Colorado Springs, Fannie F. Eison of Apex, N.C., and Mary I. Megna of Manalapan; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Monmouth Worship Center, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.

CARL J. STEINMETZ, 95, of Mooresville, N.C., died Aug. 1 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville. Born in Scranton, Pa., he had lived in Freehold for 55 years before moving to Lake Wales, Fla., and then to Mooresville earlier this year. Mr. Steinmetz was a field service engineer for Hussman Refrigeration Co., Bridgeton, Mo., for 20 years before his retirement 30 years ago. He also owned and operated Freehold Refrigeration and Appliance Store on South Street in Freehold. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1923 to 1927. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, and was a founder of the Asbury Park Chapter of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. Mr. Steinmetz was predeceased by his wife, Anna M. Estenes Steinmetz, in 1999. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Carl C. and Carol Steinmetz of Mooresville; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Fred Meier of Hobe Sound, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at the parish cemetery, Freehold Township.

Virginia Woolley Shibla, 81, of Jackson, died July 30 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Mrs. Shibla was born in Howell, and had lived in Neptune before moving to Jackson 15 years ago. She was a meat cutter at ShopRite, Nep­tune, for 15 years, retiring in 1988. Prior to that, she was a waitress at Van’s Freehold Inn, Our House Tavern, Farmingdale, and Ship’s Wheel in Brielle. She was a member of the Jackson VFW Post No. 4703 Ladies Auxiliary and the Southwind Community Club in Jackson. Mrs. Shibla was predeceased by her husband, Fred­erick "Vic" Shibla in 1993; four brothers, Calvin, Robert Jr., Norman and Kenneth Woolley, three sisters, Wanda Carlson, Annaka Mandel and B. Jane Horner. She is survived by a brother, Charles W. Woolley, of Howell; a sister, Doris Rapp Brion of Lincroft; a stepson, Victor Shibla of Point Pleasant; two granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrange­ments were handled by C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Alelphia. Interment was in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Howell Lions Club Diabetes Fund, P.O. Box 701, Farmingdale.

VINCENT R. LIMONGELLI, 72, of Long Branch died July 24 at his home. Born in Newark, he had resided in Long Branch since 1965. He was the owner of Vinnie’s Hot Dogs, Long Branch, from 1968-1993, retiring in 1993. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was predeceased by his wife, Christine, in 1995. Surviving are two daughters, Irene A. Moore of Freehold, and Sarah Montana of Atlantic City; and two granddaughters, Angel Limongelli of Philadelphia, and Brittany Moore of Shark River Hills.

KATHLEEN T. QUINLAN PRUSAKOWSKI, 83, of Lakewood, died July 29 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Born in South Amboy, she resided there before moving to Lakewood 10 years ago. Before her retirement in 1983 she was employed by the city of South Amboy as a tax collector for 15 years. Prior to that she was employed by E.I. Du Pont Photo Products as a film inspector for 12 years. Mrs. Prusakowski was a member and past commander of C.A.V. Chapter 67 Ladies Auxiliary in South Amboy and was a member of the Lakewood Italian American Social Club. She was a communicant of Saint Mary of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Lakewood where she served as Eucharist Minister and was a former communicant of Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in South Amboy. Mrs. Prusakowski was predeceased by her husband, John H. Prusakowski, in 1989; her sisters Ruth Quinlan in 1989 and Mary Leonard in 1978. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ellen Senape and Margaret Poulson, both of South Amboy; two sons, Jerry Prusakowski and his wife, Maureen, of Colts Neck and Joseph Prusakowski and his wife, Jane, of Howell; four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. A funeral Mass was held at Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in South Amboy. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery in the Parlin section of Sayreville.
