It was very thoughtful of our commander, Jewish War Veterans Post 972, to thank the ShopRite and Acme super-markets for allowing us to sell our poppies, and that includes our thanks to the people who gave us the quarters and dollars. Every cent goes to the disabled war veterans from all wars.
There was one mistake, denouncing the presidents who did not go all out for the veterans. The commander made an error. If anyone thought of the veterans, it was President Ronald Reagan.
It was President Reagan who put Moammar Khadafy out of commission. It was President Reagan who won the cold war and got rid of the Russian Com-munist Party. It was President Reagan who knocked down the Berlin Wall.
It was President Jimmy Carter who embarrassed us with Iran. It was No. 1 draft dodger President Bill Clinton who sent billions of dollars to Haiti to get rid of their dictator, and today Haiti has never been so poor. It was Clinton who did nothing when the terrorists blew a hole in the destroyer USS Cole, killing many sailors. Clinton said, "We know who did this but I want more proof."
Sept. 11 was proof enough for President George W. Bush, and he has the terrorists on the run.
