The windmill pitching clinic, for girls ages 10-18, will be held at Jackson High School. H.O.W. to FASTPITCH will provide two 10-week sessions, starting in October, on Wednesday evenings. There will be a maximum class size of 12 athletes. Pitching instruction will start with beginners at 6:30 p.m., intermediate at 7:30 p.m., and advanced at 8:30 p.m. The cost is $120, to be paid at the beginning of the session. The U9 girls’ Brick Shooting Stars traveling soccer team is looking for players. The girls play in the Monmouth-Ocean Soccer Association. All players must have been born on or after Aug. 1, 1993. Baseball instruction for the young player — Marc Kaplan and Pat Saverino will be offering personalized baseball instruction to boys and girls, ages 8 to 18, this spring and summer. Marc Kaplan is the former Asian Scout for the Atlanta Braves, just returning from eight years in Korea. Prior to joining the Braves, Marc was head coach at Gallaudet University, New England College and Hillside High School. Pat Saverino is the current manager of the premier Brick Clippers Baseball Club. Pat was an outstanding high school and college player. He was a sought-after prospect by the Mets, Tigers and Orioles. The Howell Heat U10 tournament softball team is holding open tryouts for the fall and 2004 seasons on Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. and Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. at Howell Middle School South. Girls must be 10 years of age or younger on Dec. 31. No residency requirement. For further information, call (732) 364-9209.

The Lakewood Recreation Men’s Slow Pitch Softball Fall League will commence on Sept. 2 with all games played under the lights at the Pine Park complex, Monday through Fridays, until Nov. 26. The St. Gregory the Great 2003 Boys’ Fall Classic Basketball Tournament will be held Oct. 3-13 at St. Gregory the Great’s parish center, Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square. The camp is for ages 12-14 (must be in seventh or eighth grades), and includes pool-play (four games guaranteed), varsity high school officials, a 20-team maximum, and individual trophies for champions and runners-up.
